Dear Ms. Rodwell

I am writing this letter to inform you about my major and my career and academic goals. Reading this letter will help you further understand why I am taking this class, and what kind of person I am so it will be easier for you to help me excel. Coming into high school, I wasn’t sure at all what I wanted to be when I grow up, but I figured I would come up with a plan when I got older. Taking classes in high school, I couldn’t figure out what I really enjoyed. There were some classes that I liked and some that I performed well in, but there were none that I truly felt passionate about. In junior year, I took AP Physics, and it was then that I realized that it could be a career for me, I really enjoyed the class and had fun figuring out problems and doing labs there, so I went on to take Physics 2 in senior year which I also enjoyed. When applying to college, many of them asked for a major, and I wasn’t sure what to put. I didn’t know much about engineering, but I did know it was strongly tied to physics, and I knew there were many good jobs in the field. I also didn’t know what field of engineering I wanted to go into but circuits were my favorite part of physics, so I decided to select Electrical Engineering as my current major, putting me where I am today.

I am not 100% set on majoring in Electrical Engineering, but I do think that I want to stay in the field of engineering and physics. Right now, my academic goals for me are just exploring my options, working towards finding what I think is truly right for me in my future. Im taking many different classes to figure out what I want to do. Whatever it is that I find myself enjoying I want to be able to excel in all my classes so I can be ahead and ready for what is to come.

When it comes to my career, I am not sure what I want to do as a profession. As a college freshman, I still have plenty of options that I am considering. One career I have in mind is becoming a college professor. I have been working with kids for a long time and I really enjoy being able to help them learn and grow up, I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others so I feel a career in education would be something that I could enjoy. I still haven’t had enough time to be able to explore all of my options career wise but I will do so as I continue college. In the end I just want to get a job that can support me financially while leaving at least a little bit of money for myself.

In my future, even if I don’t end up majoring in engineering, I still believe that it will have an important impact on my life. Having engineering knowledge can be very helpful if you want to be able to fix things by yourself, and it can also be an asset in helping me find a job, even without a degree in it, the knowledge does not go to waste. Engineering is becoming more and more relevant in our society as many problems are being solved by engineering, which can make engineering knowledge very useful in the future. I am confident that no matter what I end up doing in my future there will always be an aspect of it related to engineering.

Sincerely,

Radley Lupiano
